Find Your Own Story

The timing of the sixth Art Fair Suomi sales exhibition could not be better, coinciding as it does with the Helsinki Festival and the Design Week at the beginning of the autumn season. Opening on the Night of the Arts in the Puristamo and Valssaamo venues at the Cable Factory, AFS10 offers this year’s most exciting variety of contemporary art, ranging from sound art to performances, from drawings to paintings, photographs and video installations. The fair will include hundreds of artworks – and every piece on display is also for sale! The exhibition architecture is by Timo Ripatti, Furniture Designer of the Year 2010.

This year’s theme, Story, branches out in many directions. Each of the 600 contemporary artworks by 200 artists has its own unique story, but also the buyers can discover their own stories in the works and will thereby play a crucial role the continuity of their own piece. The buyer gives the work a new life – first by being captivated by it, and then by placing it in a setting of its own.

New! Interest Free Instalments

You can now make purchases at the AFS10 sales exhibition with interest free instalments. During the weekends, presentations under the theme “Five works I’d like to buy” will whet prospective buyers’ appetite for art with ideas and inspiration served by front-line artists and cultural luminaries, including Annette Arlander, Martin Healy (Ireland) and Elena Näsänen. Artists attending the exhibition as well as art interpreters and purchase guides provided by AFS will tell you more about any items you might be interested in.

The fair also includes a seminar for professionals in art and interior design on how to position artworks in public and private spaces.

Art Fair Suomi will also feature the release of the fourth compilation in the MUU for Ears series of sound art: the collection of video art soundtracks on CD is a first in Finland! For 15 euro, the CDs in the MUU for Ears series offer sound art to astonish and delight ears at home or in public.

Open in the Evening!

The most versatile sales exhibition of contemporary art in Finland is open until 5 September from Wednesday to Friday 11am–9pm, on Saturdays and Sundays noon–5pm (closed on Monday and Tuesday). Private viewings can also be arranged outside the opening hours – do not hesitate to ask! In addition to exhibitions in Puristamo and Valssaamo, an installation titled Momo City by Sari Palosaari will be exhibited in Merikaapelihalli. Presented in cooperation with Design Week, the installation consists of recycled Ikea tables and shelving as well as large-format projections of a selection of video and photographic art.
