Artists' Association MUU and the Union of Artist Photographers will organise ART FAIR SUOMI 09, their fifth joint sales exhibition of contemporary art, at the Cable Factory in Helsinki, from 26 September to 4 October 2009.

In the Puristamo and Valssaamo facilities at the Cable Factory you will find Finnish video art, performances, audio works as well as photographs, paintings and drawings – altogether 600 works by 150 artists. Many of the works will receive their premier performance at the fair, allowing professionals and first-timers alike to attend many first-night openings and make great finds, all in one place.

A photograph on your wall, audio art for your living room, performance for a party – starting at just €29

The Art Fair Suomi 09 sales exhibition encourages visitors to buy Finnish contemporary art under the theme: "Trust your intuition. 30 seconds is all it takes to fall in love. Buying art is just as easy."

The fair has a selection of brand new AFS guides for buyers: "How to buy contemporary art?" You can also use the services of art guides who can help you see nuances in the works you are interested in. Purchase guides can help you select works that are suitable for your temperament, environment and wishes.

In addition to art photographs, the fair also provides a perfect opportunity to find new ideas how to use art – audio art in your stereo or a soundscape in the bathroom, or videos for your television or mobile phone. You can also order performances entitled Cream, a Board Game for adults, as well as Fishing for Poems for a private or office party, starting from €500.

The week preceding the opening to be introduced by Siemenpuu and the sales exhibition by Roi Vaara

You can also commission works at AFS. A case in point is Return of Birdsong, a media art installation commissioned by the Siemenpuu Foundation from artist Milja Viita. The work will open the hanging week of AFS09 at the Narinkka Square outside the Kamppi shopping mall on 21 September from 12 noon to 7 pm. The work will be on show only for one day.

Roi Vaara, the internationally acclaimed Finnish performance artists, will perform at the opening Friday, 25 September. Samples from the programme of events: "Five works I'd like to buy", four tours by recognized artists Adel Abidin and Elina Brotherus, as well as by Pirkko Siitari, chief curator of collections at Kiasma, and Vexi Salmi, lyricist and art collector. Art photography seminar in Kiasma and treasure hunting around the Cable Factory.

The exhibition architecture of Art Fair Suomi 09 at the Cable Factory was designed by Timo Ripatti, recent recipient of the SIO furniture award and Furniture Designer of the Year 2010, elected by the Finnish Association of Designers Ornamo.

Every encounter with art is a unique experience. If it feels good, it must have a value – just for you. For updates on events at AFS09, visit our website!
